Megs Rediscovers Toronto: Christmas Market Edition

Now for anyone who knows me, they can safely say that I have a slightly excessive obsession with Christmas. And I would also not deny that statement. This Christmas season I have tried to see all the holiday events Toronto has to offer. One thing I learned is that next year if I want to see as many Christmas events as possible, I need to plan better where to go to optimize my time during the holiday season. But also, I have accepted there is no way I can see every single event because there are just too many!

Now for as much as I love Christmas this next statement may be a shocker. I have NEVER gone to the Distillery District Toronto Christmas Market. And now let me justify why I, Meagan (Christmas fanatic), has never made it out to the best Christmas market Toronto has to offer. In my opinion the market has only really become really popular in the last five years. There is that need to post the classic Christmas market photo with the lights, Christmas tree and steaming hot cup of cocoa. Also the past 4 years my exams normally go right up until the last day possible. So I was always locked up in a library and couldn’t find the energy or effort to make it to the market after I was done my exams.

But this year I said ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! I am going to the Christmas Market satisfy my need to go find all things Christmas. My new program I am studying this year is way less demanding compared to my undergrad. So I am now able to make the time to go to events not only for myself, but also to be able to share it here on my blog! On another note, this blog has pushed me to get out of my house and find things to do around the city. Maybe in the summer when family members come to visit I can actually take them around my city and feel confident being a tour guide.

So my adventure down to the Distillery District was another very chilly day and I was sporting my full winter gear. To be honest, taking photos with my winter gloves on felt really odd, but I was not about to get frostbite to get that perfect Christmas market photo! The first thing I saw as I stepped into the market, was this massive fondue station, although it wasn’t set up yet since I arrived fairly early in the day. One thing that didn’t disappoint about the market was the sheer amount of food available to try out. I wish I hadn’t eaten such a large lunch because some of the food really smelled sooo good!

As I wandered further into the market I strolled by stand upon stand upon stand of all things Christmas. There were stands selling just snow globes, handcrafted ornaments, candles and freshly baked Christmas goodies. If my house wasn’t already overflowing with Christmas decorations, I may have bought something! The path of stands then led me to the center of the market where I found the massive Christmas tree, which of course was what I was most looking forward to! What I love most about the tree is that it isn’t a perfectly shaped Christmas tree. Yet despite it not being the most aesthetically looking tree, the vast amount of decorations made it look amazing. *If I had to pick one of my top favourite Christmas activities, it would be picking a tree and then getting to decorate it later that day. My alter ego OCD Meagan needs to make sure all the ornaments are perfectly spaced out and that no two of the same are next to each other. This definitely annoys my brother so much, but he’s lived with my annoying self for his whole life so he puts up with it, which he doesn’t realize how much I appreciate that.

One thing I was pleasantly surprised by as I kept walking through the market, were the scattered light signs found on various buildings with words that describe the holiday season so perfectly. Although this market is called the Christmas market, you don’t need to celebrate Christmas to be able to enjoy it. This event really caters to people of all ages, whether you come with family, friends or by yourself!

I walked up and down each alley probably three times because I just wanted to make sure I took everything in. I really look forward to coming back next year and seeing what new things the Toronto Christmas Market will have to offer. Now Christmas Fanatic Meagan can wear this nametag with pride as I have now made my way to the Toronto Christmas Market, which honestly took me way too long to make my way to.

Thanks to everyone for joining me as I Rediscover Toronto! In the New Year I will absolutely keep exploring the city I call home. And this post brings an end to my holiday series on my blog as well as my posts for 2017. I was really nervous starting up this blog, but honestly I have really enjoyed having a place to write and share all the photos that I take. Please don’t forget to come back and check out my blog in the New Year for more of A Glimpse of Meagan’s Journey!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!
